A hair transplant is not something you do twice
Price matters, but it is rarely what patients regret later. What counts is who performs the procedure and how well you are looked after before and after.
- 1
Donor hair is limited
Grafts come from the band of hair at the back of the head, and what is taken there does not grow back. Every badly placed graft is missing later. A failed transplant can therefore only be corrected to a limited extent.
- 2
The result stays for life
You see your hairline, density and scars in the mirror every day. Spread over 30 years, a CHF 2,000 price difference is less than CHF 6 a month.
- 3
Medical care, not a production line
Ask who extracts and implants the grafts, how many procedures take place per day and whether the cause of your hair loss is checked first.
- 4
Aftercare makes the difference
The final result only shows after about 12 months. Good clinics stay with you the whole time, treat further hair loss and are reachable when you have questions.
That is why price counts for only 15% of our rating. Expertise, aftercare and transparency weigh more. How we rate →
What 2,000 grafts cost at Swiss clinics
Calculated from each clinic's published package or per-graft prices. Māra Zürich prices individually after diagnosis (from CHF 250 per month at 0% financing).
What the price depends on
Number of grafts
The biggest factor. A receding hairline needs 800–1,500 grafts, temples plus crown 2,000–3,000, an open top of the head 4,000 or more.
Who operates
If the doctor performs extraction and implantation personally, expect CHF 5–6 per graft. Teams with high daily capacity are cheaper.
Method & shaving
Sapphire FUE and classic FUE cost about the same. DHI and unshaven transplants cost more because they take longer.
Diagnostics
Trichoscopy and blood tests establish whether a transplant makes sense. Included at some clinics, extra at others.
Aftercare
Between two and five check-ups, sometimes with PRP sessions and care products. A big difference in overall value.
Financing
Interest-free instalments over 12 to 24 months make the procedure easier to plan. Check whether fees apply.
Does health insurance pay?
In Switzerland, a hair transplant for hereditary hair loss is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by basic insurance. Supplementary insurance usually does not pay either. For hair loss after an accident, burn or surgery you can request cost approval; the insurer's medical adviser decides case by case.
More guides on hair transplants →Checklist: what should the price include?

- Written quote with graft range and fixed price

Frequently asked questions about cost
How much does a hair transplant cost per graft in Switzerland?
Swiss clinics charge between CHF 3 and CHF 6 per graft. Package prices with a graft cap are often lower; doctors who perform every step personally are at the upper end.
How much does a hair transplant for a receding hairline cost?
A receding hairline usually needs 1,000 to 1,500 grafts. In Switzerland that costs around CHF 4,500 to CHF 9,000, or from CHF 2,700 with budget package providers.
Can I pay for a hair transplant in instalments?
Yes. Several Swiss clinics offer interest-free instalments, from CHF 220 to 250 per month over 12 to 24 months depending on the clinic.
Does health insurance cover the cost?
Not for hereditary hair loss, as the procedure is considered cosmetic. For hair loss after an accident, burn or surgery, accident or health insurance may cover costs after review by the medical adviser.
Is a hair transplant in Turkey cheaper?
Packages in Istanbul usually cost CHF 1,800 to 3,500. With flights, extras and self-paid check-ups in Switzerland you reach around CHF 2,700 to 5,100, more with a companion. Add 6 to 8 days off work and the risk of an expensive correction.
What costs come on top after the procedure?
Depending on the clinic: medication and care products, check-ups, PRP sessions and possibly ongoing medication against further hair loss. Ask in advance what is included.
How much does a 3,000 graft hair transplant cost?
For 3,000 grafts you typically pay CHF 9,000 to 15,000 in Switzerland. Some package providers are cheaper, doctors charging CHF 6 per graft more expensive.
